For several years now, Tim and Liz Mitchell have generously invited Lou and I sailing with them on their yacht “Helios” which they berth in Palma, Mallorca.
Tim and Liz ……………………………………Helios berthed at Real Club Nautico
This is the course we set this year.
Setting off from Palma harbour
Liz bringing the fenders on board…………Castell de Bellver
The voyage along the south side of the island
I do do my bit ! I enjoy the sailing and wouldn’t want just to sit back and look at the scenery
Porto Petro where we lunched and……..Porto Colom where we stayed the night.
It isn’t all hard work. The wind and the auto-helm can do most of the work if set up correctly
We sleep in the bow while Tim and Liz have the stern and eating is usually on board for lunch and ashore in the evening. On board, pastimes include reading, music and crosswords as well as just chatting. Among our favourite restaurants in Palma is Fabrica 23, Calle Cotoner 42. Telephone: 971 45 31 25. Not cheap, but worth trying
Lou up in the “pointy-end” and……………The Chartroom
We moored off Plama Nova on 11th August (on the way back) and I went for a dive the next morning. We took a rib about 30 minutes westward round the coast to the Islote El Toro (39 Deg. 27’ N, 2 Deg. 28 E) which is now a marine reserve. The highlight was seeing a seabird at a depth of about 12.5 metres swimming around (not just diving) looking for food. Sadly, not caught on camera.
On the last day we sailed over to Cala Brava which is a little spot off the main tourist drag and had lunch.
THANK YOU, Tim and Liz
